This unique festival, held in May each year, showcases 88 historic churches across the district. The festival includes everything from Saxon and Norman churches to Victorian treasures and quiet Quaker meeting houses

Gainsborough's royal connections
Gainsborough has a unique royal history, having been the site of King Alfred’s marriage and the temporary capital of England. In 1013, Sweyn Forkbeard, King of Denmark, was proclaimed King of England in Gainsborough. This marked a brief period when the town was the centre of English rule until Sweyn’s death.

The great earthquake
On February 27, 2008, West Lindsey experienced the UK’s second-largest onshore earthquake since measurements began. With an epicentre near Market Rasen, the quake registered 5.2 on the Richter scale, shaking the region and becoming a notable event in local history

RAF Scampton and the Red Arrows
